Banff Strike Wing Memorial
The memorial to the airmen and women from 6 multi- national aquadrons who served at Banff Strike Wing in WW2. Mainly flying Mosquitoes and Beaufighters they carried out daring raids on German ships and Uboats along the Norwegian coast in the last months of the war. They inflicted heavy damage on enemy shipping whilst suffering heavy losses ( over 80 aircrew died in the raids). They caused the loss of thousands of tons of vital iron ore and other supplies effectively reducing the length of the war.
