Cannot be replaced
Hinges for kitchen cupboards have been a bit of a topic in our house this week. We have our fingers crossed that some replacement doors for the kitchen units will be delivered before we head to The Island again. And to fit the doors we need to buy the appropriate hinges. For the trail fitting a few weeks ago we took a last minute walk into Newport but this time we wanted to be more organised and PY ordered some to be collected from B&Q in New Malden. Within a day they had cancelled the order saying they were out of stock nationwide.
In spite of this B&Q on Sutton we’re showing stock so we re-ordered. And today we set off to collect them. This is not a nice twenty minute stroll but a 90 minute - not quite 5 mile - walk. And we decided to walk because the exercise would be good for us.
Before we left, I dismantled a lamp that hasn’t been working for a while. Although the casing said the bulb was not replaceable I wanted to check for myself. It’s an LED with some wires that connect. It all comes apart quite easily but there was nothing like it in B&Q. When I checked online it looks like the LED component can be purchased but not a fully wired circuit. Maybe we will check at the lighting shop near the house because it seems ridiculous that this lamp, which was quite pricey and not used very much, is now - basically - trash.
Fortunately, the route Apple Maps suggested ended with a ten minute walk around the B&Q car park so we were able to drop the last few minutes off the track by simply taking the path direct to the entrance. I reported the route error to Apple but, like most of my reports, I suspect nothing will happen and others will be taken around a tarmac wasteland instead of directly to the foot.
We decided on a train back. It was a much easier journey straight to Wimbledon Chase. We grabbed a coffee at a lovely little shop opposite the station before boarding the train. They had some very tempting cakes which we both managed to abstain.
When we got back we had some of the leftovers for lunch and then PY went to do some work. I sat on the sofa for a while but started to feel really cold and decided I’d be better watching TV in bed. The only problem was the the walk to Sutton seems to have taken it out of me and, although I went to warm up at 4pm, I emerged about 7pm which was just in time for dinner.
