Tentsmuir

A decision had to be made this morning as to whether to travel east or west for a day's walking. The former was the winner so it was a drive to Tayport and a walk in Tentsmuir Forest and Nature Reserve. The walk was an amalgamation of two, one which featured in the Ramblers Magazine and the other in the excellent "Scottish Walks" publication which is free to subscribe to and comes in digital or paper form. It contains a good range of walks in different parts of the country.
The Tentsmuir walk takes in a superb piece of coastline with extensive views across the Tay estuary to the Angus hills -slashed today with streaks of yellow oil-seed rape- and long stretches of sandy beach. The return route through the forest itself is equally stunning with trees of all shapes and sizes. I imagine this is a walk to savour at all times of the year. Blips quite numerous but I loved the blue in the sky of this one and the starkness of the dead tree
