Isle of Portland

The Isle of Portland extends south into the English Channel near Weymouth. Chesil Beach, which is a tombolo, joins the Isle to the mainland.

We walked down the eastern side from Portland Heights - with this fine view of Chesil Beach - as far as Portland Bill.

In the harbour were two cruise ships, but we couldn't spot the prison ship asylum seekers barge, which must be tucked away.

Extra is the Trinity House Obelisk at PortlandBill. Situated south of the lighthouse, it serves as a daymark.

The First Bus app told us there was a bus back from the Bill, but it didn't appear. So we reverted to our youth and hitched a ride with two kind young chaps.
