Dr Semmelweis
To see Mark Rylance in Dr Semelweiss. The doctor who worked out the importance of washing hands after operating on open wounds. He discovered sterilisation before Lister.
So the tickets said National Theatre and off we went to the NT on the south bank. Strolling through the back streets around Waterloo. On arriving it was all quiet. I asked the attendants what was going on and they pointed out that I was at the wrong theatre. We should be at one in the west end. Oh no! the play was already starting.
So we jumped in a cab and fortunately the traffic was flowing. We got to the correct venue only ten minutes late and were sneaked in to the seats. Very embarrassing and I was mortified. Moral: Always doubt check which theatre.
Anyway, the play was brilliant. A terrific production and ` strong story.
