Waiting
Photograph was taken on the Shurdington Rounabout, above the A417 out of Gloucester. I was waiting for others to turn up to ride to Down Ampney. Promptly at 10:15 I set off, alone, but shortly after arriving at the destination another rider, and his wife, turned up. They had arrived at the roundabout just a minute or two after I left. Another one was there, but he doesn't ride a bike, but he is very helpful when stuff needs to be carried to events as he is always willing to carry stuff in his car. See Extra.
The event today was a commemoration of those that served at RAF Down Ampney. It was only an RAF station for a couple of years during WW2 but was very instrumental in launching airborne forces for both Operation Market Garden (Arnhem, film "A Bridge too Far") and Overlord, D-Day. Two transport squadrons were based there with Douglas C47's (Dakota's). I just read, today, that Jimmy Edwards (old actor and comedian) was based there as a pilot, hence the handlebar moustache he used to sport, to hide an injury sustained when he was shot down over Arnhem.
