At the Bay

In the cool of the morning we wandered a little around the charming Ely. I popped into the Cathedral Shop to buy a magnet and a book about the Cathedral. I also found a book about Etheldreda, the princess who founded the monastery at Ely. I have long been fascinated by these impressive Anglo Saxon women and am pleased to find that her life linked with those of other such women, e.g. Hilda who founded a monastery at Whitby. So this is what I am now reading.

Eventually we set off for Dover, checked into the Premier Inn and headed down the narrow, steep and bendy road to St Margaret’s Bay. We’ve been coming here for a long time, but not for a number of years recently. It’s a lovely place to be, but it was disappointing that the sun we had blazing down on us this morning, suddenly disappeared. So, not a great picture, but here we are - white cliffs, sea and ferries coming and going across the Channel. And a delicious meal at the Coastguard, sitting outside right by the sea.
