Viaduct Park
A visit to the viaduct “park” at Castlefield in Manchester. It’s a trial National Trust project, which runs to autumn 2024. The hope is it will be successful and - if funding can be secured - will be extended beyond the current 330m section. I’m probably a bit late coming, missing all the spring and summer colour, but it’s still worthwhile visiting. In the temporary structure at the end was a little exhibition of photographs by the Chapel Street (Salford) photographic club, which was interesting.
The viaduct itself is grade 2 listed, and owned by National Highways - who were rather bizarrely given responsibility for the nation’s historic rail infrastructure in 2013. Hopefully they’ve learnt a few lessons after the fiasco at Great Musgrave in Cumbria.
