Open Garden Squares Weekend
Great idea - opening up lots of London gardens for a weekend. The 40 minutes I spend on a guided tour of the Royal College of Physicians garden were fascinating. "Most of the plants here are poisonous." I now know that hanging peony roots around your neck was the prescription for epilepsy. It appeared to worked - because 75% of epilepsy sufferers only have one attack. And the physicians had a monopoly on "medicines" like this and became extremely rich. One of them was John Radcliffe who built the Radcliffe Camera in Oxford.
This shot is of the College Garden at Westminster Abbey. Hidden away by high walls and dominated by two plane trees, it's a special place.
