A wandering snail on the suet feeder
It isn't the first time I've seen a snail making the rather extraordinary journey to the suet feeder normally reserved for the birds. In fact I found one 'resting' under the cover of this feeder, away from prying eyes.
I would have thought that this is a dangerous place for snails as birds would eye up a snail as a main course after a suet pellet starter. I removed this snail and put it back on the ground flora as a safer place for it. Snails have not been a problem in the garden this year and nor have slugs compared to former times. Another sign of transforming times for wildlife.
This snail would have had to climb a wooden trellis, transfer to a iron bracket extending a foot from the trellis, and then descended down a chain to the top of the feeder cage. Intrepid behaviour.
