Bloody Scotland

Been south catching up with family… that’s what we told them anyway. Really we came down to go to Bloody Scotland.

Steven (who works at the Orkney library, and runs their Saturday Slaughters crime reading book group) had been part of the initial selection panels for the long lists for the Debut novel and the McIlvanney prize so we thought it was a good excuse to go along.

First time we’ve made it to this crime writing festival but we’ll definitely be back. Very much about writers and the tartan noir genre and this gives it a real community atmosphere. Which is strange really when you realise that everyone there spends a lot of time thinking about murder.

Steven’s prediction for the winners was spot on :
debut went to Kate Foster for The Maiden
McIlvanney won by Callum McSorley for Squeaky Clean
