Emily Inspires

A trip to Morpeth today to see an exhibition on Emily Wilding Davison. There are a number of events on to mark 100 years since Emily died trying to attach a scarf/flag to the King's horse during the Derby on the 4th June 1913, she died 4 days later.

Unfortunately the exhibition room was a bit warm, but we had a quick look and saw the scarf.

I had to do some googling about this poster...
The Cat and Mouse Act, also known as the Prisoners (Temporary Release for Ill Health) Act meant that suffragette hunger strikers were released when they got ill, but could be re-arrested by the police when they regained health.
