Idyllwild
We took a family trip two hours into the mountains to a small town called Idyllwild. We were there in hopes of scoring tickets for their annual home tour, but our place in line was well back of the probable cutoff point (we are learning here in crowded California that one cannot wait to make a decision on a special event, once the date is published, you've got to buy tickets then and there). Regardless, we enjoyed a lovely day wandering this charming town. Little did I know, until we visited the local museum, that Tahquitz Rock, which I fantasized about during my rock climbing days, was located in the hills outside of town instead of in Yosemite Valley which is what I always thought.
