Exhibition

An enjoyable day spent with Tom, my son, in Sheffield. We met at the station and, first things first, lunch at a cafe he found on the internet. It was a good choice, and the food was delicious!

Then the main reason for our trip to Sheffield - a visit to the Gloam Gallery to see 'Tracing Matter', a small but fascinating collaborative exhibition by Lucy Crouch (my daughter) and Matthew Vaughan, exploring their shared interest in the resonance of materials. The pieces in the exhibition focus on the qualities of charcoal, "pulling out the resonant sounds through and within charcoal and producing prints using charcoal as a print medium." The charcoal was made from pieces of waste timber originating in French forests.
We spent quite a while there, looking at the pieces and listening to the sounds. Another 'proud mum' moment!

After that a wander around Sheffield, including the Peace Garden and also the Winter Garden. Time for a drink before heading back to the station to catch our trains back home.

MrM had dropped me off at Brockholes station for the train to Sheffield, before leaving on what I thought was a day at Otley Folk Festival, but it seems he changed his mind and went fishing instead! I had expected to get the bus back home from the station but, unexpectedly, he was back home before me and kindly fetched me from the station.
