Bascule Bridge mechanism

On Saturday I took part in the London City Orienteering event which was based in Rotherhithe by the side of Canada Water/Surrey Docks. It was interesting to see the change from the extensive working docks of my childhood. The event start was from under the actual bridge which is no longer in use, see extra picture.
