Sound mirrors

Although still in the midst of packing, we decided we would head over to Dungeness to see the installations on one of the few days they are open to visitors. Met G&T plus H&G in a car park and walked to the RSPB site where they are housed.
The three mirrors were constructed before radar was invented and were part of a national chain of sound mirrors used to detect incoming planes in war time. These particular ones were obsolete as soon as they were built because planes were suddenly much faster and the warning from the mirrors was too late to be of use. After that we went for lunch at a nearby pub and then headed back for more packing.
