A Day of Contrasts
An early walk around the fields in the drizzle ! Bit it was still invigorating!
We took Paul’s Mum down to West Bay in the afternoon and had a walk along the beach there . The light was so clear after the misty morning.
Village History Meeting in the evening - Tim Medhurst, who lives locally and is one of the stars of Antiques Road Trip gave a really engaging talk about some of his antiques . We had to put them in order of age then in order of value . The oldest was a 1645 Bible . That wasn’t the most valuable - a painting by Joanna Cartington (once owned by Bruce Chatwin ) was deemed more valuable although it was the newest . We were taken by a large ‘Witch Ball ‘ which he had brought along - an ancient superstition that they protected you from evil and were often hung in cottage windows ! Apparently, they are still popular in Sussex !
