Skara Brae
This house on Orkney is part of a 5000 year old village which predates the pyramids and Stonehenge. It was excavated from beneath sand after being uncovered by a storm in the late 19thC and reveals the sophistication of the people of the time. The furniture is made of stone and here can be seen the cupboards and box beds with the hearth in front.
Orkney has 1000s of ancient 'stone age' remains and was an extremely important centre in the ancient world.
