Today has been lovely. Little Man had a play date this morning, which he really enjoyed. It gave me a chance to run some errands and do a few things.
Autumn definitely seems to have arrived. We've had plenty of rain and wind. It's been nice to be back in leggings without being cooked by the heat. I can also wear my tall boots without problem either.
Thank you to everyone who commented and left stars (and a fave) on yesterday's post.
As promised, I've done a bit of research into the town. Well, city, I should say. Oudewater got city rights from Utrecht's 38th Bishop, Hendrick van Vianden, in around 1265. This meant that Oudewater was an important border city between the counties of Utrecht and Holland. In 1280, Oudewater was lost to the county of Holland. It wasn't until 1970, before Oudewater became a part of Utrecht again.
Oudewater was represented in the First Free States Meeting in Dordrecht on 19 July 1572. It was during this meeting that a Dutch Republic and its foundation were decided on, with the leadership being placed in the hands of the House of Orange. However, because of this, the Spanish besieged the city and massacred its inhabitants (a large number of old buildings were lost due to a fire that broke out due to the siege).
