Hiroshima

We started today with a tour of the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum. I've been to something similar in New York based on 9/11, but this was 10 times more harrowing.

We shuffled round in silence. The only noise was the gentle sobbing of visitors. A young woman collapsed, overcome with grief. I wish everyone could see this museum.

The image today is a video of a replica of the impact of the bomb on the city. The shadow figures are visitors looking on. As we walked round, we read of the blackened, burnt people and bodies. For me, it fitted with this image.

Later we went to the island of Miyajima. Home of the floating Tori gate. A beautiful island, uplifting, serene, full of friendly deer.

We found a bar which offered Scottish malt whiskies at a fraction of UK prices, and even cheaper refills.

Another busy day. Tomorrow we pack up again and move onto our last Japanese destination, the city of Kyoto.
