Lisbon National Coach Museum

Another busy day of relaxation...

We visited the St Just Elevator (extra) which carried people from one shopping street to a much higher one (because, hey, hills). We didn't pay to take the lift because all the good guides note the internals of the lift are uninteresting, and you can of course make your way to the viewing platforms from the upper shopping level!

We then walked down to the coast and took a train to Belem, and then went into the National Coach Museum to get some shade, not sure what to expect - apart, perhaps, for coaches.

These three were spectacular, the middle one being costed in gold leaf. Sat in the centre is Apollo, singing the praises of Portugal. The female figures are Spring and Summer, holding flowers and wheat respectively. In front of the globe the two old men, Indian Ocean and Atlantic Ocean shake hands to symbolise the successful passage of the Cape of Good Hope.

Apparently.

Worth going Large for.
