Idyllic Days: End of Summer, Canoe Creek

It was one of those almost perfect mid- to late-September days. The skies were bluebird blue. The sun was shining. We still had at least one hummingbird hanging around, for we saw it both in the morning AND in the evening.

The morning started out chilly but temperatures were to warm up to the 70s in the afternoon. So we did a rerun of that special day last week: we had breakfast at Eat'n Park, then lit out for Canoe Creek; we bought some of the last of the sweet corn.

I walked over (with T. Tiger and the Moose, who loved them!) to see the lime kilns. Then my husband and I had a very fine swim in the lake. There were only a handful of people there. We lingered, just sitting in the sun with our books, enjoying the day.

If there was a word that would come to mind, it might quite possibly be this one: "idyllic." Is there anything more lovely than the fleeting last days of summer? I think not.

Our soundtrack song for this idyllic scene is Neil Diamond, with Summer Love.
