Tyson the Shire
I wanted to talk about Tyson as he’s such a wonderful horse, but OMG! he is frustratingly annoying!!!
He had a pretty bad start to life, he was orphaned, then nearly died, then as a yearling he got stood on by another shire and fractured the whole of his shoulder blade. Then somehow ended up at a meat man’s yard being fed up to go for slaughter… so all in all… not the best luck. It was whilst he was there that I went to see him, and he was literally skin and bone, in a terrible condition he wasn’t coping very well, so I picked up him, a black yearling and a little coloured foal. After getting them back home I could see his bone structure wasn’t right so I got the vet to look at him and after X-rays we could see his shoulder was like a jigsaw puzzle. Prognoses wasn’t good, I was told he wouldn’t make maturity, his shoulder would give way by the time he was 3/4…. Skip forward 13 years and he’s still with me! Not good for much other than eating and pooing, and he has a habit of standing on your feet, but he’s still going strong so I feel compelled to just let him, it just goes to show that vets don’t know it all, sometimes you just have to hope, and sometimes miracles happen x, I do love him very much x
