Late

Having left my laptop in my office to avoid taking it to Glasgow yesterday evening, I went into work today. After some captivating programming, an email prompted me to go to see the colleague who took over the running of our MSc programme from me five years ago. We had a good discussion about the failures in the University's inherently flawed student support system, and that it's been take so much out of the hands of academics that we can't do anything to rectify the situation. I was glad to walk away from his office, knowing that I no longer have any part in attempting to work within it. I then extracted some data to get a view on why our student recruitment - another job I stopped doing 12 months ago - has collapsed this year.

On my way down the corridor, I saw that my oldest colleague was still in his office, and called in to find him (as internal examiner) with F's external examiner. The three of us had a good chat - including a valuable technical discussion with the external. The light was going as I got outside, but the sun was shining right along one of the main axes of the campus, lighting the Nucleus building quite well.

Back home, A and I went out to eat, and chatted at length for the first time in a few days.
