Unfinished Business Part 3
In 2005 I suggested to some caving mates that we re-survey a cave up on Takaka Hill to sort out some old survey errors from the first exploraton in 1973. Since that fateful day four years ago, a whole lot of new stuff has been found to tie into the "new" map and the only person dragging the chain is me! So it was out with the survey notes (complete with a smattering of genuine cave mud) and after much head scratching, I started drawing the first draft.
Trying to represent a three-dimensional reality in a plan and elevation is not so easy. But the end result will look pretty cool. I don't know how many kilometres of passage we have now but it's 400 metres deep so far and a hell of a lot of cave.
B & M are the real heros of this project now. Especially figuring out how to use the new-fangled survey software.
In a few weeks I'll get back up there to check some of the passages for drawing and maybe Blip the actual cave to prove that I do occasionally go underground.
