Grand Fondo

Bert left the choice of the cycle route to me and I enthusiastically told him that I would like to cycle to Roermond via the Wurm river. I had no idea how many kilometres this would be, not to mention my ideas about the way back. There were several options for this.
A relatively straight road to Roermond is about 50 kilometres. However, this is not a reasonably flat route. For that we could cycle back along the Maas and Geul. A big detour. I did mention train and bus, but he didn't seem to have heard that.

We set off happily, driven by the many YouTube videos of Ryan Van Duzer, Keep Smiling and Rolling Existence.

It is wonderfully quiet cycling along the Worm. First we drove to Hertzogenrath and headed north along the stream. Not until Roermond, we didn't get that far. We lost our way at Heinsberg. We had already cycled 50 kilometers by then. Roermond was still 25 kilometers away. I mentioned train and bus again, but Bert looked at the route app and came up with a return route.

Cycling against the wind and over the inevitable hills, we arrived home after 100 kilometres.
We saved that september's Gran Fondo, even though we had planned it for next weekend :-D
