Fledgling Greenfinches
It's been very quiet at our feeders of late during the sunny warm weather, with only an occasional chaffinch and odd starling or two. So I was delighted to see a young greenfinch perched on one of the feeding stations this morning. It was soon joined by two of its little compatriots. Their green feathers are just developing. A few years ago we had dozens of them noisily competing for a perch, but the numbers have dwindled in recent years. Good to see them and hope there will be more around.
I used the focal zoom filter in Picasa (at max) to blur the edges and focus attention of the one in the middle. I was lucky to catch it with a seed in its beak while the other two have their noses in the trough, so to speak!
