Eastern slopes of the Pennines

Once we’d escaped the clutches of SE England it was a fairly straightforward journey to Keswick in good conditions with few idiots around.

A very late lunch at Mainsgill on the A66 provided todays blip. We had the “special” chicken and ratatouille with rice and sweet potatoes. We’ve been disappointed with Mainsgill on our last few visits. The special was not that special and the way the tea was supplied was a mystery.

Decaf tea at £2.95 was 20p more expensive, came with hot water in two unequal sized pots with the teabag at the side. Upon enquiry as to why this was the case I was informed that this was the way they served decaf. I thought Yorkshire folk knew how to make tea? Where was Big Brave Bill when you needed him (fans of Kate Rusby will know what I mean: https://youtu.be/thoRROtX9Fc?si=TuOH_dzocdG2x_xQ)

Lovely to be back in the South View apartment of Oakfield House, just north of Keswick. Our third visit. The weather looks dire tomorrow.
