Today’s adventures
No travelling in the van today! Instead we are spending time with Shelling, enjoying life on Öland.
We had seen a lot of his new house on pictures and in zoom conferences but it is great to be in it in real life and be even more impressed! Sunny and warm spots at the front and back depending on time of day and the almost ever present wind.
We drove into Kalmar to the castle to see a multi-media show about the Impressionists, done by the same company who created the Van Gogh show. We were suitably impressed and it features in HarlingDarling’s blip so I won’t write more.
Spent a little time in Kalmar, wandering around outside the castle, looking at sand sculptures, eating lunch and ice-cream and enjoying the warm and sunny September weather.
We drove back onto Öland and visited Alvaret. This is an extremely large and flat area of limestone with minimal topsoil and sparse vegetation. It is famed for the flowers, orchids, and bird life. It is so flat you can see all the way to the horizon. You can see a bit of that in Shelling’s blip.
I went for this more dramatic image with Shelling and Jan at the start of the raised walkway enabling wheelchair access to the bird-watching platform.
The day still had a few activities left but now l’ve run out of energy so I’ll finish here and head for bed! We travel onwards tomorrow!
Hope you’ve all had a good weekend. Goodnight!
