Sauchie Tower

Taking advantage fo the latest Doors Open Days, this time in Clackmannanshire, which may be the smallest county in Scotland (I think...?) but crams loads in.

I've ridden round the tower tail before, taking in Alloa, Clackmannan and Sauchie Towers, as well as Menstrie Castle, and Castle Campbell. Clackmannan Tower is probably the most dramatic, sitting on top of a lonely hill, so is the most popular. Which means it's ticketed. And we were too late on that.

But ticketless Sauchie was atmospheric, and really interesting. They're still searching for funding for a restoration, but the reasonably ruinous state made for more intrigue than the fairly plain Alloa Tower that we had a wander round later.
