Beautiful day for a paddle!
Tuesday
After a somewhat cloudy start, it once again turned into a beautiful day, and Roger suggested we go out kayaking. We chose to go to Caesar creek Lake, quite a large lake, where we have hiked on various occasions, and Roger has been sailing with his friend Phil, I’ve been along too once or twice. We have kayaked there once before, at the northern end of the lake, where the inlet is. On the rest of the lake at weekends it can get quite busy with motor boats and jet skis etc, but now the schools are back, and it’s a week day, we hoped it wouldn’t be bad. So this time we headed towards the south of the lake, close to the dam. Whilst there were several boats out, they were all fishing, so either stationary or moving slowly. At one point, there were a couple of jet skis, but other than that we had a wonderful peaceful paddle, so picturesque with clouds and trees reflected in the water. We saw a few great blue herons, lots of cormorants, and best of all, a bald eagle, framed amongst some autumnal foliage. We didn’t break any records for distance or time, but just enjoyed being out in nature and the tranquility.
As I write this in the evening, we can hear the rumble of distant thunder- maybe we will finally get some desperately needed rain?!
