Evol valley
Today’s walk took us along the Evol valley and then up to the tiny village of Oreilla. Evol is one of the ‘Plus Beaux Villages de France’, with its slated roofs and stone houses, several of which have the original, distinctive bread oven bulges on the side of the building. Oreilla has the sad distinction of having the highest death rate in France by percentage of population during the First World War.
13.3% of the inhabitants never returned. It was not a long walk, only 8 kilometres with 400 metres of ascent.
