Happy
There was a tentative plan that the team would go out after work this evening to Mo’s house. I knew a couple of people couldn’t go because of the need to get home but I was available. It was perhaps not the most ideal timing as we’re off to Paris Disneyland tomorrow but as we don’t tend to socialise as a group too often I thought I’d go along. However, when I arrived at work, I quickly realised that it was not going to happen tonight which was a mixture of disappointment that we won’t be getting together and relief that it means I have more time to pack.
A lunch time we all, except Pete who had a call, wandered around Staines looking for somewhere new to have lunch. I don’t remember who settled on the all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet but it was selected and we paid up as we went in. The happy cat was on the counter as we entered. I have a soft spot for these good luck symbols after seeing a whole wall of them in the Facebook office in Madrid. Rather than being creepy - which I can imagine some people might think of a wall of waving mechanical, golden cats - I though it was charming.
Lunch itself was a bit of a disappointment. Yes, there was an enormous choice of all sorts of cuisine - not just a Chinese buffet - but the restaurant wasn’t very busy and so there end not a great turnover of food and much of what I had chosen was lukewarm, I think Pete ended up with the best deal by getting a sandwich from somewhere else.
On the way home I wasn’t joined, as I usually am, by Mo. I took the opportunity to switch trains at Twickenham and head back to Raynes Park in the anti-clockwise route which meant that I could avoid changing at Clapham and get a seat all the way home. It’s much more social to travel with a colleague but it’s also nice to have a seat for the entire journey home.
I struggled with packing because, although we are only away for three days, it’s not really very clear what is needed to spend the day walking around Disneyland. I hope I picked the right things.
