Through A Frame

Managed to find an angle where I could mostly see the egret. I saw it fly around the trees landing on the other side of the fallen willow. A bit of breeze wafted the strands of willow leaves and so it was pot luck how much of clear shot I had. There are still wood ducks up there, shielded by the willow and other vegetation along the length of the inlet.

I liked the way the leaves, trunk and fallen logs make a frame through which to observe the scene beyond. A frame within a frame gives an sense of the sensitivity required when approaching these birds and creates an impression of depth in the image drawing in the viewer.

Extra: Sounding Out. A northern flicker drumming away on a walnut tree trunk in the prairie. Strangely he worked his way down the trunk, not up as usual.
