New Term
It was our first U3A geology meeting of the season today, in the Eric Liddell Centre, where our 'resident advisor' Angus Millar gave the lowdown on maps issued by the National Library of Scotland Map Library, which has recently extended the range of geological maps available online. I see many hours lost in wonder in front of the computer ahead. Before the meeting I found another stained glass window in one of the rooms off the east corridor.
I have to say that I am appalled, disgusted, furious, horrified, utterly bewildered (you get the picture) to learn that the 300-year-old iconic Sycamore Gap Tree has been felled, in an act of mindless vandalism. This tree must be the most visited and photographed in the country yet a 16-year old boy thinks it amusing to cut it down. Shame upon him and whosoever supplied the equipment to do so.
