Carcassonne

Tuesday was a day spent in and around Carcassonne. We had a guided walking tour of the walled city in the morning, followed by a trip to a local chateau for lunch and some wine tasting in the afternoon. Once we arrived back at our hotel, the rest of the day was free.

After a wee rest in my room, the outside temperature was now in the high 20's, I went for a walk down to the 'main' town (for want of a better word) and through that for a while. It was good to get a bit of the local atmosphere, rather than be surrounded by tourists (yes, I am aware I was one such) before returning up towards La Cité, the name by which the walled city is known.

I wanted to return there before dark - our hotel was just a few streets away from the main city gate - and experience a different side to the citadel from what we had seen on our morning tour. It was a real bonus to catch the light from the setting sun on the city walls, giving them the golden glow on today's Blip.
