Chur to Basel
This morning we took the first cable car of the day (8.30am) from Chur upto the high plateau of Brambruesch, which is 1000m above Chur. The view over Chur and Plesur River Valley, as we descended, is the first extra. We didn't have long up there because we were catching a train to Basel, but Brambruesch looked an interesting place for hiking, mountain biking, and skiing in winter.
The train journey via Zurich along the upper Rhine valley was most enjoyable. We followed the shores of lakes Walensee (second extra) and Zurich, before arriving at Basel.
My main blip is of the Munster ( cathedral) in Basel above the Rhine. There is a designated swimming route down the river as it passes through the city, which was proving very popular today with the air temperature up to 27 C. People swim with their dry clothes in a watertight bag on their back.
My final extra was taken at the same spot as the main blip but shows a few of the desirable residences on the other side of the river. I was intrigued by the tree apparently growing out of the house!
Basel seems a very prosperous city with immaculate buildings and elegant shopping streets. We will explore some more tomorrow.
