Rest and relaxation day
I had a late lunch today: a vegan maitake fritter bao bun from a Taiwanese shack. I didn’t know what maitake was, but being vegan, I knew it wouldn’t be muck.
It was delicious. The fritters were crispy and tasty, and the bao itself was big and soft. It’s my stand-out meal so far. I had it with chips and mango juice, then I left with a strawberry doughnut to stuff in my face while I had a little wander round Nipponbashi.
Back at the hotel, I looked up maitake. It’s a kind of mushroom with many common names; the Japanese name translates as ‘dancing mushroom’. How delightful!
