Still up
'The Portal' stands proudly on the beach as part of Bournemouth Arts by the Sea Festival, on till Wednesday. It's had a rocky ride as families of the two youngsters, who perished in the sea a couple of months ago, objected as it overlooks the spot they drowned.
The council apologised and said it was a crass decision, and they would take it down immediately. Today an about-turn and it's staying up for the duration.
It's proving quite an attraction, probably helped by the media publicity following the complaint. Went to look late afternoon, after our Covid and flu jabs. From Westbourne we walked to Vesuvio, and then to look at the new Rockwater Village (packed out) in Branksome Chine.
Fortunately, we were able to catch a Breezer bus into Bournemouth (runs hourly out of season) and got off to see the Portal. First to the Lower Gardens which were crowded, people coming to see the various performances.
Then home via the 'Portal' and zig-zag.
Aching now. 11,300 steps later. Going to see the Portal tomorrow night, lit up and with music.
