Big day for a big character, who's still working one day a week at the 'chalk face' despite being 80 years old. The amount of energy he has is amazing. Like the Duracell bunny adverts of long ago, he just keeps going, and at an incredible speed. Near all that know him, and that's many thousands of people throughout the Highlands & Islands and beyond, have amusing tales to tell about their encounters with him, and likewise, his tales of times with them. Out of his Students these days, he taught some of their parents... and grand parents! All will remember him with a smile.

Personally, I have a lot to thank him for, as in his management days he took me on as the department Technician, twice! These days we very much work as a double act with many labs and demos for his classes.

Had to persuade him that we needed to go for a break at the normal time today, rather than delaying until after doing a second lab exercise, without letting-on about the wee celebration that was organised. Good clean fun, as always.
