Betjeman at St Pancras

Stage one of our travels completed!
This is the much photographed statue of Sir John Betjeman at St Pancras International rail terminal in London. It stands in tribute to his work and leadership in the campaign to save from demolition and re-development the classic Victorian facade of the station and adjoining hotel.
I remember the St Pancras of my student days from the early 60's, grimy, sooty and full of coal-burning steam locomotives. How different it is nowadays - sparkling and bright, all polished marble and glass - a major transport hub linking Eurostar, the rail network, underground railway and bus services, - the whole endowed with quality cafes and restaurants and a shopping mall.
From here we take the tube to Heathrow to catch our first flight with Malaysian airlines to Kuala Lumpur.
