On the trail today

Got out this morning for a couple hours at Ninety Six National Historic Site.  The site is the location of one of the first land battles in the American Revoluntionary War in the early 1700's.     Beyond the history area is a deep dense forest with trails for hiking and horseback riding.   

I was hoping to see some leaf color as it is a little north of my area but not much.  A few yellow poplar leaves on the ground and some red on the dogwoods.   But there were mushrooms!   This is my favorite of the fungi from today!   

Starting a hiking challenge to walk 50 miles in October and November.   This will average about 8 miles per week.    I don't think I will have any problem meeting this goal as the fall is my most favorite time to be outside walking.
