Stowe House
Stowe House was built in the late 17th century by the Temple/Cobham family. It has been remodelled several times since then, as have been the wonderfully landscaped gardens.
It strikes me as amazing that such wealth could have been accrued just by sheep farming but, apparently, it was so - although some sleazy politicians in the family probably acquired more wealth by other means.
The house is now used as a Public School but the property is owned by the National Trust.
This picture was taken from about a mile away and shows the most awesome aspect of the house as it is seen by new arrivals.
