is it based on a true story?

I watched life of Pi last night with the now fully grown up miss christie, who has left the teenage life behind in the stylish manner of watching movies eating chocolate, and being immature.
Really good movie it has to be said, and a prime example of me now needing to read the book to go with it. I loved the story, the artistic direction, the general cinematography.
It really makes you think a lot about so many significant topics like psychology and religion
I also may now want a pet Tiger...
