The end of the Majestic Tree

I was sad to stumble across this today as I had planned something quite different.  Back on 4 February I photographed this tree and it was my Blipfoto for 4 Feb, entitled The Majestic Tree.  It's now gone and this is what was left.  It stood on the edge of a school playground.  I asked was the tree diseased and was told no it was a healthy tree but the school wanted it taken down.  So much for bio-diversity, just a few hundred yards from here is a plaque marking the late Queen's Green Canopy which is rather ironic!
