Streets of Valetta

We continued wandering the streets of Malta today, especially the old city of Valetta. Google tells me that this statue commemorates Carmelo Scicluno, who was Bishop of Malta for a time towards the end of the 19th century.

Valetta was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1980. It has hundreds of monuments, all within a relatively small space, making it one of the most concentrated historic areas in the world.

The tourist season here seems to be still in full swing, even though technically autumn has arrived. The weather is delightfully warm and sunny and it’s understandable that lots of people from more northerly parts of Europe (and elsewhere) are enjoying it.
