Seal at Ohau Point

The road at Ohau point has been completely reconstructed following the Kaikoura earthquake. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the ugly, raw slips that were evidence of the upheaval have grassed over since my last visit. In addition, the road works are now completely finished. The observation point has been brilliantly designed, with great views of the seals. One can no longer walk the short trail to the pool where baby seals play in a kind of nursery, but this is probably a good thing because the seals were suffering from over-exposure to enthusiastic visitors. If the pool remains post earthquake, the seals will now have it to themselves.
