Life through the lens...

The Pudseys

Well we have been lucky.
15 of us set off from Oakwell Hall to walk the 7 miles up to Drighlington, then across the fields to East Bierley, where we stopped to have our lunch. Plenty of seats on the village green. Over to Birkenshaw, then Gomersal and eventually back to Oakwell.
The weather was dull but fine up to lunchtime, and then we just had a couple of slight showers.

All enjoyed the walk, many seeing places they hadn’t been to before.
We were able to tell them about some of the history of the area including the Battle of Adwalton Moor  30th June 1643. Between the Parliamentarians led by Lord Fairfax, and the Royalists army led by the Earl of Newcastle who won the battle.

The extra collage is of some photos I took along the way.
Top left, one of the interesting gates installed at Oakwell Hall in 2015. Designed by Antonia Stowe, it tells the story of Oakwell. The objects on the gate include a civil war sword and helmet.
Pumpkins for sale.
Climbing the stile. Fortunately the cows were at the other end of the field.
A heron which landed among the sheep.
Walking away from the pond after lunch. Just started drizzling.
An old weighing scales used as a garden ornament.

As usual it’s now feet up with a cuppa!
