Sarracenia Leucophylla
Otherwise known as a pitcher plant, supposedly a carniverous plant but I have yet to see anything actually dumb enough to fall into it. I've watched flies crawl all around it but they never show the least inclination to go inside and get trapped. It is still a fascinating looking plant an this one is bursting with new...er...pitchers. The original ones dried up and I cut them off as instructed by the guy at the farmers' market. It looked like a pot full of leaves for several months, but I looked at it the other day and realized that a lot of the 'leaves' had turned into new pitchers. Despite the fact that it doesn't seem to attract flies as we had hoped, it's still an interesting and entertaining plant . I caught it this morning with the sun behind it.
The trial of Sam Bankman Fried, the once gazillionaire CEO of FTX, a crypto currency company, began this week. Despite hobnobbing with world leaders, famous athletes and Hollywood celebrities and living in an opulent condo in the Bahamas, he has been under house arrest at his parents' home on the Stanford campus since he was arrested for defrauding his investors.
I was interested in his story because I had listened to a podcast called Spellcaster about the collapse of his company, FTX. I listened to it again today as I worked on Will and Chloe's quilt and avoided the rising temperatures outside. He is a fascinating character and seems, in my opinon ,to suffer from some sort of personality disorder. I have no interest in cryptocurrency, beyond wondering along with most of the rest of us, what it is, but I learned enough about it that I can't understand why anybody would invest in it. Sam Bankman Fried convinced some pretty high level people to do just that.
Beyond that, I made a delicata squash salad to take for a gathering of our coffee group for dinner. Gail's brother and his wife are visiting from England and a delightful addition to our circle once a year or so when they come for a visit.
