Arklow ..........
Two ships from the Arklow family were on the Manchester Ship Canal this evening. One on it's way into Manchester to deliver a cargo of Wheat. The other had discharged it's load and was heading back to Liverpool , and then onto Dublin.
Arklow Resolve cleared the locks and sailed slowly onwards. Arklow Flair had patiently waited at the side of the canal and then moved into place to enter the lock. Once in , it all started to go horribly wrong. Apparently the lock gates were not sealing quite a way down in the water, and consequently a diving team had to be summoned to clear whatever was blocking the gate . If only they had asked, i would have nipped home and put my cossie on & helped them out. There was quite a crowd and plenty of people taking pictures. It looked like it was going to be a long wait, so we came home. I will listen out for it sailing past later this evening . The bridge in the far distance is Thelwall Viaduct .
